RE: Rosa canina


Dear Joanie,

Great stuff on this list. With my eye, (just a general garden 
sense) I would not compare the wild roses to a rugosa. Rugosas
have that whole dark colored, ridged/vainy leaf thing going for it,
where as the wild "dog roses" are smaller, oval, and smooth with tiny
jagged egdes (more delicate). Rugosa generally have larger blooms
of rich color and the "dog roses" here are "faint" in color, size and
fragrance conpared to the rugosas.  (Just my opinion.)
