Suckers revisited -Reply

Oh, you will! You will learn to curse those
"suckers" and take great pleasure in disposing of
them!

The best way around it is to grow own root,
then you don't have to deal with them!

Hi

Got my courage up and removed the soil
around the suckers on Double Delight
and my other adopted rose.

It turned out that except for one, the suckers on
Double Delight were coming
from below the bud union, so I ripped them off.
I couldn't bear to toss the
suckers onto the compost though and so I
potted them up. They never
blinked an eye and are thriving already. A
little scarey to see that much
vigor...I wonder what species they are.

The other rose had no growth from the bud
union at all.....all of it's
growth was from suckers. I decided to grow it
anyway just to see what these
guys look like. Being new to all this, I'm just
too curious and soft
hearted to dump anything that looks vaguely
like a rose. I'm sure I'll get
past this "non-descriminating" stage pretty fast
though with my limited
growing space and an ever increasing wish list
of roses! ;-)

Thanks to all who offered advice.

Best Wishes,

Asata
