Fellow Rose Banditos,
I didn't get my Climbing Cecile Brunner (sp?) ready for winter
last fall (our fall lasted until Christmas.) It had a dozen or so
thick canes and i was hoping it would pull thru w/o too much
die back and shower me with my first blooms this spring.
Alas, it had terrible die back. I cut all the canes down searching
for green wood. I left it for dead. Then, this past weekend i
saw one lone shoot starting to grow. Well at least the thing
has a chance of pulling thru after all.
Here is the question: what should i do about all the stubs from
last year? Do I leave them? Will they inhibit the growth of any
new canes? Do i try to cut them as close to the ground as possible?
I am afraid of doing too much for fear of accidentally injuring any new
growth and thus dooming this beautiful climber.
Thanks for any help...
