Joanie,

I have a bush of Golden Wings that is in its third year. It is quite vigorous
and upright, about 5 x 4. Its blooms are single, yellow, some as large as 4
inches, with golden orange stamens, very striking. Light, pleasant fragrance,
early to bloom in the spring. Since the last two winters were relatively mild
for northern Illinois, I can't say how much dieback it will have when our
normal cold winters return. There is (or was) a bed of them at the Chicago
Botanic rose garden and a bush at the Boerner Gardens in Milwaukee. One of the
books I use as a reference for rose hardiness, Hardy Roses, lists it as Zone 4
and Spring Valley Roses in Wisconsin, where I got mine, also considers it hardy
for our part of the Midwest. It has always been one of my favorites and was
one of the first I ordered when I finally got a sunny garden. Has been very
disease resistant so far.
