Oh no, Carleen, did you do this on purpose?! Roses and clematis are two of
my favorite combos. Most of mine are still maturing together, but currently
growing together are:
Climbing Iceberg with a blue clematis
Cl. Don Juan (deep red) with a dark purple clematis
Orange/yellow/pinkish 'Westerland' with blue morning glory (fudging here) on
the street sign in front of my house
Cl. Angel Face (lavender with dark purple edging) with a burgandy with
lavender heart clematis
Abraham Darby (peachy pink) with a blue clematis
New Dawn (pale pink) with a magenta/purple clematis
Mdm. Isaac Perriere (dark deep pink) with a magenta/purple clematis
Hansa (magenta purple) rugosa rose with a deep burgandy clematis
Sharifa Asma (an Austin rose, blush with deeper pink edges) has a stand of
medium boulders behind it, I layed yardware cloth over the rocks, and over
that grows a burgandy clematis that weaves over the rocks and into the rose.
Handel (a cream climber with red edges) has a blue clematis through it with
a slight red bar in the center of the petals
Have any of you ever grown solanum crispum (sp?) 'Glasevin' (sorry that's
not exact). It is potato vine with darling lavender star shaped blossoms
with yellow "eyes." This I have growing through a yellow rose on a rambler
wall.
I have 'Eglanteria' (sweetbriar) on my rambler wall as well and IF she
behaves herself (and doesn't try to take over the planet) I will plant a
late blooming, star shaped white clematis that should show off the red hips
of Eglanteria in the fall...
Sombrueil (cream/whate old climber) with a red, tulip shaped clematis (the
texensis type).
Golden Showers (yellow climber) with a magenta clematis
Souv. du Dr. Jamin (old, unequaled burgandy rose) with Hagley Hybrid, a
pinkish clematis with burgandy stamens
Summer Wine (single pink with yellow heart rose) with a blue clematis with
yellow anthers
I have many other clematis in large shrubs, especially those that bloom
once, like lilac, winter honeysuckle, viburnum.
Sorry if I bored ya'll, but the possitibilities are endless, huh?

For mine is a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come
together to praise the Lord and teach all who look upon them to do
likewise.
