hi!!! new list member but "old" (in the literal sense as well as
figurative)
My favorite Rose book is
Brent Dickersons "The Old Rose Advisor" My sis gave it to me for Xmas a
couple of years ago and though I don't have much in the way of Old Roses
(she does) the book is an educational experience.
The antique plates in the middle are the best things (I love pretty
pictures).
Susan, my neighbor here in the {Portland area, has encouraged me to check
out St Paul's Antique / Heirloom roses this summer..so perhaps this type
of rose will soon make it's way into my garden.
Meanwhile, I love this book.
As far as general gardening books, my basic primer is the Sunset Western
Gardener, with Kruckenbergs "Gardening with native plants of the Pacific
Northwest".
I recently retired from 31 years with Ma Bell and have been devoting the
winter to deciding what to plant and the warm days to getting out and
planting, weeding and moving perennials.
I recently had a 15x40 sloped patch of grass tilled under and and
planting a rose/herb/perennial garden in it.
Eventually the herbs will be elsewhere, but for now this is a good spot.
The roses I am growing are mostly for y daughters wedding next year. I'm
going to try and to the table decorations from my garden.
I am really interested in the Rose/clematis topic, that sounds like a
lovely idea and one I would like to incorporate.
