Hi,
I am a newbie to the rose list and also to growing roses. I have
ten bushes, 3 or which are patented the rest aren't. I planted
the roses last spring and did not really have many blooms, but
they are making up for it this year! I planted the unpatented
roses to see if I could grow them and since I was able to will now
only buy the better roses.
I was told how to deadhead the roses and prune them back, but
still have a few questions if you don't mind. I am having a real
problem with ants on just one of my bushes. I cut off a stem that
the were really having at and also put diazinon granules under the
bush. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I am afraid
they will destroy the plant and I do understand that they carry
aphids. Secondly, I was told the more I clip the buds off and
allow them to fully open in the house, the more new buds I will
get on the plants. This makes sense to me, but want to make sure
I am doing the right thing. Third, my dark red roses do not seem
to last as long on the bush or cut as the others. Is this normal?
Fourth, do any of you dry your roses or make potpourri from your
rose petals and how is the best way to do this? Thirdly, will my
roses bloom all summer and into the fall without me having to
prune them again? I am assuming from my zone, 9 I think, Corona,
CA, area that they only need to be pruned in January or February.
Thanks in advance for your help.
