Judy, well one of the most popular ways to get giant blooms is to
remove all the buds but one per stem. You get one big rose instead of
lots of smaller ones. Of course, there's no way I can sacrifice even
a tiny bud. :)
I don't like chemicals here so we just use natural means to happy
roses. My girls (1 and 3 years old) love to help the gardens by
planting banana peels, scattering coffee grounds and egg shells, etc.
We compost too, of course, and use fall leaves for mulch. I have very
informal gardens though. I don't have centerpiece roses as much as
just drifts of blooms and colors.
