Hello, folks! I'm experiencing a problem with the above-mentioned rose
this year that I haven't in years past. Several parts of the plant are
dying. Whole branches are turning brown and when I prune it out, the stem
is hollow in the inside. Other parts of the bush are healthy as far as I
can tell. I can't figure out why only certain parts of the bush would die
so suddenly and drastically.
I would like to stop this if possible before the whole bush succumbs -- or
is this normal for a bush of this age? I should tell you that it is a
monster this year (after 3 years of growth) and it is roughly 7 feet tall
and about that wide throwing suckers everywhere. Mind you I'm not
complaining about this, just trying to give as much info as possible. I
have never pruned this bush as I wanted it to grow rather large like it
has. I don't spray it with anything because it never needs it and I only
fertilize once a year in the spring with a granular mixed with manure. It
gets a "natural" mulch from it's own bulk -- nothing can grow near it if it
needs sun.
Weather of late: very, very dry. Just now getting typical fall weather of
daily highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's.
