transplanting

Dear listers,

Just thought I would update my progress transplanting my roses to their
new homes. Two weeks ago I dug and transplanted a dozen of my miniature
roses. Some of them are still blooming in the new location. I placed
them along the sidewalk at the new house.

Last weekend I moved one solitary rose bush along with numerous iris and
peonies. I took the afternoon off from work today to dig more roses,
lilies, iris and peonies. I bought some 20 gallon tubs from WalMart and
as I dug I placed the roots in the tubs and poured some soil over them.
I have one more rose bush to move and that will be all of them I will
take. I have to leave the climber and the rambler here but will take
some cuttings to bury at the new house.

I still have some buds in the house and on a hybrid tea that I will
leave here too.

The new house is on a creek bank and we had to raise the elevation under
the house by about 18" with gravel. We had a huge compost pile here and
instead of buying top soil which often is not really good soil here we
hauled compost down to heap on top of the gravel. I am planting in that
almost perfect site. I will have rich soil for the roots and excellent
drainage under that.

I loosened the soil around the roses prior to digging them and the soil
was moist so I hope that will encourage them to transplant without any
problem.

I tried to find the mail from the man who ordered a great number of
miniature roses but it has been removed from the trash file too. I
wanted to know which catalogs he ordered from. I recall one was to be
on line soon and I can't find a new one on line at present. I would
like information about sizes of plants, how shipped, price and quality
of plants if possible.
