Hi everybody --
I just subscribed to the list, and thought I'd introduce myself. A couple of
you may already know me (you there, Hermine?). I'm a sansevieria collector
living in Memphis, TN. I've been growing sanevierias for at least 25 years
(actually, I still have the trifasciata plant my mother received in a dish
garden when my baby sister was born 30 years ago), and I've got around 125
varieties, most of which spend six or seven months of the year in my backyard,
the rest of the time crammed into my small greenhouse and my home. I've grown
a few from seed, created a couple of my own hybrids (not yet available for
release to the general public), and propagated the others every which way.
I've even brought a few wild specimens back from Tanzania, collected during a
recent trip to Africa. In the past, I've won a few ribbons at the local Cactus
and Succulent Society Shows, but don't really have time to participate with
that anymore. I travel quite a bit for my work; fortunately these plants are
undemanding, as you know, so they don't mind when I'm gone for a couple of
weeks.
My friend Deb Russcol, who lives in Chicago, and I regularly trade plants with
each other; her collection fairly mirrors mine, and when I accidently kill one
of the tender ones during a cold winter in my greenhouse, she can usually
replace it for me from her warm apartment windowsills. I think she will
probably join the list too.
There you have it. I'm looking forward to discussions with you soon, and
maybe some trading. There are still a few I've got a craving for!
Best regards,
Kirk Pamper
