HI everybody,
I just returned from the Eastern C& S Conference where I had been invited
as a speaker.
It went beautifully. The number of attendants was 175 large, enough to make
it exciting, small enough to have a sense of togetherness, something the
large western conferences appear to lack. The speakers could be approached
and talked to and there was a very friendly atmosphere, the latter also
existent in the larger conferences.
The organization was truly perfect, if there were any problems behind the
scenes we certainly did not hear about them.
The highlight was the boat trip with dinner along the Ohio river sailing
under dozens of bridges, all steel, all different.
For us, Sansevieria lovers, the real highlight was the auction of plants,
where the two highest (by far) prices paid were for, are you ready?,
Sansevierias. One sold for $ 200 and the other for $ 220 (yes, two hundred
for Sansevieria hallii 'Variegated' and two hundred twenty for Sansevieria
trifasciata 'Forescate').
LoWilla Wilson bought the former and the latter was bought by a gentleman
from the Pittsburgh area, who, I understand has only recently been
collecting Sansevierias.
I commend the organizers for their dedication.
Juan
