Dear All;
Having been gone a very short while from my email, I was shocked to
see this flurry of emotion over my naive answer to Steve and his request
for more info. It seems like some of this list have adopted Steve as the
poster child for the American Flailing Association- I really don't quite
understand this. His response was enthusiastic and inquiring. As recipient
I did not find it AT ALL offensive, invasive, mean spirited or just plain
EVIL as some seem to have taken it.
I think it is common for beginners (as I consider myself in the
Sasevieria world) to mix up perfectly common plants. Steve was seeking a
hint of my level of knoweldge (or stupidity as the case may be). I for one
was glad to get a response from some one actually interested in
Sansevierias.
Diana and Hermine have done a fine job keeping this group going,
but your reactions seem to (bluntly) way over board here. I'd be worried
about asking anything more controversial than 'what color are your
Sansevierias"?
As to fussing about names of Sans., if the identity, taxonomy,
systematics and classification were clear- the result of a professional
botanists peer reviewd generic revision - we'd all be happier and have
somethings to go on, but it just AIN'T so. It is the dedication of
knowledgeable amateurs like Steve AND Juan that help us students to make
some sense of this mess. Without names we all understand, our plants might
just well be green plastic decore.
Forming a second "Sansevieria For Dummies' (and don't take this
personally you chosen 25) is still not a good idea as many on this list
have already stated. I won't join a second list, just too much email as it
is.
As I have stated before - I wish all the 'high strung' members of
this list would calm down -take a nervousness pill - sit back and read the
messages for their content, not seeking out hidden agendas for world
domination or voodoo curses.
I'd still like to talk Sansevierias Jeez Jim W.
