> SANSEVIERIA SURVEY
I have only start to become very interested with Sans less than two
years ago. What I currently do have are common varieties that one could
easily find in nursery, department or groceries stores. However, here is
my $.02 worth.
> 1. The easiest to grow.
Most Trifasciatas, dwarfs, somalians. I especially find that
Cylindrica, subspicata, and mason's congo are among the easiest.
> 2. The most difficult to grow.
Experience some difficulty with 'Moongrow' ,when division takes a little
longer for it to recover.
> 3. The quickest growing.
Must be 'subspicata' . These are seemingly just bursting at the speed
of light. I also have one unknown variety to me that is also growing as
fast as the former.
> 4. The slowest growing.
The 'variegated' forms does seem to grow slower than the snail. This
may change after I am in luck with a few more.
> 5. The easiest to propagate from leaf cuttings.
I do not find it necessary to propagate from leaf cutting. Division
ensure results.
> 6. The most difficult to propagate from leaf cuttings.
A wasting of time!
> 7. The most unusual way you have grown them.
With a few , I have exposed a good portion of the root system in the
shallow container. Some may find it very offensive, but I think of it
as
humans in skimpy swim ware bathing in the moonlight.
> 8. Your favorite soil mix.
Any cactus/succulent mix work great.
> 9. Any plant that requires an unusual soil mix or specialized care.
Extra pumice or perlite added to the mix for 'variegated' varieties.
> 10. The most neglect tolerant of all.
Two thumbs up for the 'golden hahni'.
> 11. Any problems or observations you may want to comment on.
Would any of you like to trade 'Sans'?
I also raise 'Portulacaria Afra' . Average 1"+ trunk diameter, well
branched, trimmed and compact. Easy to grow!
