Re: trying again

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the clarification on scarbrifolia. I was unaware.

Both plants came from Hermine as very small seedlings, probably 15 years ago.
For years they were virtually indistinguishable from each other. But I've
grown them side by side all this time, so that their conditions would be
identical. Over time, they have become more distinct. The "scabrifolia" now
has somewhat shorter, broader, and rougher leaves, with more of a bluish
cast, than the "other" aethiopica. It also has slightly fewer leaves per
growth. I've never compared the flowers.

I have often wondered if they were not the same plant, and thought that maybe
one has been mislabeled. So now I know. I think I'll label the roque "San.
aethiopica var scabrifolia", just for my own amusement.

Do you know where I can get a copy of that van Jaarsveld article? There is a
possibility that I may go to South Africa next year, and it would make a
great reference. Thanks.

I learn so many things on this forum.

Best,
Kirk
