Dear Ove,
There is no question that the name Sansevieria sulcata Bojer is an invalid
nomenclatural synonym (a renaming of) Sansevieria canaliculata Carriere and
cannot be used for any other species. The name Sansevieria sulcata should be
dropped if for no other reason than it just does not apply to the plant in
cultivation. Brown does list both names in his monograph but the
descriptions are of the same species which is correctly named Sansevieria
canaliculata!
The plant widely grown under the name Sansevieria sulcata is actually
Sansevieria bacularis Pfennig.
Sansevieria bacularis is still not a validly published name yet but there is
no other name available for this distinctive species.
I have discussed the tangled nomenclatural history of these species several
times in the forum.

Still many stubbornly insist on misusing the name Sans.sulcata for what
should be called Sans.bacularis.
The question is why do they at Coppenhagen BG want to call it Sansevieria
sulcata?

Hello group
I think I have learned from this list a while ago, that the correct name for
s. sulcata is now bacularis!
But I am not sure from where I got this information.
Today I involved myself in a little debate of the subject on a visit to our
Copenhagen BG where they just had got a new plant labelled sansevieria
sulcata from another BG.
Was I right or wrong?
Can anyone confirm my opinion and if so -
can the change of the name be documented in a way?
Chers
Ove Christensen
