Sanseveria Rust

I grow my Sanseverias outdoors in Southern California under shade cloth, and
this time of year I'm plagued by rusts.  They seem specific, attacking badly
all of the spoon shaped plants, and leaving some of the cylindirical ones
untouched.

Is there more than one kind of rust?

Is there any good preventative, preferably non-toxic to humans and dogs?  Is
there any cultural preventative?
