It is not a matter of trust. in the absence of a valid name, and these
plants have been really overlooked for EVER...and without collection data,
and with "some" kind of tag, one does what one can to keep track. And at
the last moment some passer-by may swap labels on you at a plant sale.
Also botanical gardens are run by mortals, and some of their work is done
by volunteers.
so you cannot "trust' anybody, but yourself, to know what plants really
look like as at least, say, half-grown adults.
My guess is that among the membership of this list, which spans people who
have been collecting since...well, SOMEBODY was collecting before 1973,
because i was buying plants then...to the present, and considering the
specialized interests, and the folks who have travelled, (to habitats)
..... this list is probably the largest and fattest, juiciest resource for
raw information in the WORLD! I mean, we can delegate a Brit to run to the
Kew gardens herbarium if we need to! Somebody can always get to the
Huntington. private collections about here. and we are all DRIVEN to find
the truth, the real name, not to invent some fantasy name.
