Re: [SANS] San. stuckyi

Dear Kirk,

Chances are if they look the same they are the same but are they the real Sanseveria stuckyi? Only the flowers will be the final proof.

Sansevieria desertii is considered synonymous with Sans.pearsonii in recent reviews of the southern African species. The Sansevieria pearsonii group is not closely related to the Sans.ehrenbergii group. Species in the former have the thyrsose inflorescence typical of most Sansevierias and the leaves are cylindrical with a deep groove on the upper side extending their entire length. Check the informal species list I posted back in December 1998 for a list of species and synonyms. You will also find the answer to your question in this early posting of mine. <http://www.mallorn.com/lists/sansevierias/sep98/msg00048.html>

Doesn't anybody have N.E. Brown's 1915 Sansevieria monograph?

Hi Group--

I've got a big old stuckyi that now has some leaves which are 4 feet long.
Also have a smaller plant labeled Gl & F 71-588, which Norma says has an HBG
# 61168, that looks and grows an awful lot like it.  It is definitely
distinct from fischeri (singularis).  Could they be the same?

And, what is the current thinking on S. desertii?  I have at least three
different clones.  Are they all just other forms of ehrenbergii?

Cheers!
Kirk
