Hi:
I don't think I've said much on this email group
for a long time. I finally finished my
horticulture degree at the start of May. Now I am
applying what I learned by working in a floral
department at Meijers--basically watering plants,
putting out stock (pots, etc.), and teaching
people about houseplants. Am hoping to move to a
merchandising or assistant buyer position so I can
"strongly encourage" them to buy selected plants.
Since everyone protested the idea of taking this
website down, I left it up. Went back to it
tonight and think it is time we upgrade it
significantly.
Let's put our heads together and expand it and
then publicize it everywhere possible to attract
more people to the hobby of growing these neat
plants. I can't do this alone. My knowledge of
html is limited. Still have to get my son to hook
up my scanner again. However, people could send
me pictures via email and we could post them with
identification.
What does everyone think? I have time again to
work on this because my Doctor limits me to 25
hours of work a week. I've just been diagnosed
with rheumatoid arthritis on top of fibromyalgia
and depression which was on top of bilateral
carpal tunnel. Growing succulent plants and
gesneriads (which are grown hydroponically) is my
chief hobby today. Digging in the garden with my
feet is impossible. I have to pay a neighborhood
teenager to do the digging for me now.
I would like to share something special. If you
happen to see the Rodale Press's new book called
1,001 Ingenious Gardening Tips, look on page 56.
My tip was published! All I get is a free book
but I figure it will look good on my resume to say
that I have been published in a book!
There are probably new people here since I wrote
anything. If you don't know who I am, please
check out my column (below signature for url). I
focus a weekly column on gardening for the
disabled and elderly and book reviews. I am
trying to use this experience to begin getting
published in society journals such as the Dianthus
society, the CrossWords for gesneriad hybriders,
and maybe even the Amateur's Digest if Marina
approves an article on sansevierias.
We're probably the largest group of people in the
world dedicated to growing these plants. Any
ideas on how to help publicize the website and the
plants more?
