Dear John,
If we are losing everyone in the discussion, I guess it is time to expand
the topic to include both threads.
You are close but the collection number of the type for Sansevieria
francisii Chahinian is FKH 432 (not 434). Plants from this collection were
distributed through the ISI in 1985.
I would consider FKH 424 to be a cultivar with the full name of Sansevieria
elliptica 'Horwood'. Juan has call it Sansevieria sp. 'Horwood' but I
believe it is referable to Sans.elliptica, as I explained in my earlier
posting.
The plant Jeff has as FKH 434 is neither of these because he describes it
as having petiolate flat leaves like in the Sansevieria subspicata-concinna
complex. Does anybody else have plants with this collection number?

The Frank Horwood collection known as 'FKH 424' is without locality data
but believed to be from Kenya. It was given the cultivar name 'Horwood' by
David Grigsby and appears to be referrable here. Identical plants were
collected 10 km northwest of Kibwezi on the Nairobi-Mombasa road by Juan
Chahinian in 1992.

Time out! I am getting lost here. In the subject line we have FKH 424
yet in Jeff's email he is saying "The only way I know this plant is
FKH 434 (Frank K. Horwood)". So to save confusion I have dug out
Juans answer to my original question on this subject back in Nov
1997.
'FKH 424' should be labelled Sansevieria sp. 'Horwood'
It can also be found under 'AKH 424' as Frank Horwood was at the
time working for Abbey Garden. They thought is should be called
Sansevieria sp. 'AKH 424' the 'A' is for Abbey Garden.
'FKH 434' should be Sansevieria francisii
Hope this helps clarify the situation.
