Hi Hermine,
Thanks for your input. Again, I have to apologize for not answering
immediately. I had a lot of work to catch up on and I also went out of town
for a few days. It's only these past few days that I have started catching
up on my emails.
I am in a suburb of Manila called Quezon City. I had transplanted our plant
into a mix of 3 part grit and 2 parts coco coir dust in a 3" pot. It is now
in shade, but when it is established, I will bring it out to full sun.
I am hard put to give a botanically accurate description of the plant, but
I will try to give a layman's description. It is about 2.5" high and also
about 2.5" wide with a conical shape. The very glossy leaves are olive
green to blackish green in color and have a wide central vertical yellow
green stripe of varying width and color intensity, which are marked with
ill-defined olive green vertical streaks. This looks like a reverse of the
more commonly seen yellow edged and centrally green varieties, eg, the
Golden Hahnii. Ill-defined horizontal yellow green bands of varying color
intensity are present thoughout and on both sides. The leaves contract at
the tip into a thorn-like appendage but which are actually quite soft.
That is all my inexperience can muster right now. Hopefully, someone may be
able to tell me what cultivar it is, since the previous owner does not seem
to know. Unfortunately for us, scientific names are not widely used in the
horticultural trade here.
BTW, who do you know in Manila? Maybe I know them too.
