Hi again,

I am re-writing my previous e-mail since when I read it again, some things 
were not clear even to me!!

A sport is a spontaneous growth produced by a plant, which is different from
the parent plant. It attracts the collector's eye and he separates it from 
the parent plant in order to propagate it
A good example is Sansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii'. It was produced by
Sansevieria trifasciata. It can happen again and indeed I know one case where 
it has. A S. trifasciata produced a S.t. 'Hahnii' again.
Collectors like these because they are "new plants" .They are new
non-botanical varieties or new cultivars as well ( Cultivar is cult-ivated
var-iety)
And before someone asks:
A non-botanical variety is what its name implies. A variety appeared in 
cultivation or a very unusual occurence in the field with no botanical 
standing. It should not be abbreviated and the word itself (variety) will 
change in every language. Variedad, variedade, varieté, varieta, Varietaet or 
Formenvielfalt according to the language.
Example:
Sansevieria trifiasciata 'Hahnii' or Sansevieria trifasciata cv. 'Hahnii'.
In both cases Sansevieria trifasciata should be written in italics, which I
did not do, because it may not reach correctly to some people. This is 
beacuse some incompatibility between e-mail systems.

A botanical variety is that one found in the wild for which the word
"varietas" (in Latin) is applied and abbreviated "var.". This word does not
change with the language one is speaking as it always remains in Latin. A 
variety is then a plant dicovered in the wild in, at least, one population of 
significance
Example:
Sansevieria suffruticosa var. longituba.
Again, all words above except "var." should be written in italics.
