John Gamesby's mystery plants

Dear John,

I have some notes on the illustrations in your website for you.

Your mystery plant definitely is not Sansevieria aubrytiana. Cannot tell
what it is from the photo. What does the inflorescence look like? Do the
leaves have a bicolor margin? It looks like S.trifasciata 'Slimmerette'
from here but we need more information.

Sansevieria javanica hort. not Blume (1827) is synonymous with S.subspicata
Baker.

You Kleinia sp. Specks 1055 from Iringa Province, Tanzania is Kleinia
patriciae Jeffrey. It is named for Patricia Halliday, who has studied the
genus Kleinia. See P.Halliday (1988) NOTEWORTHY SPECIES OF KLEINIA.
Hooker's Icones Plantarum 39 (4): tab. 3876-3900.

Kleinia patriciae Jeffrey, Kew Bulletin 41 (4): 927 (1986)
syn. Senecio picticaulis ssp. patriciae (Jeffrey) Rowley, Cact. & Succ.
Journ. Amer. 62 (6): 282 (1990)

See Newton, L.E. (1993) NOTES ON SOME EAST AFRICAN SPECIES OF KLEINIA, WITH
DESCRIPTION OF A NEW SPECIES IN KENYA. Cact. & Succ. Journ. Amer. 65 (6):
286-289, 3 figs. for more info.

The genus Islaya is now considered synonymous with Eriosyce. See
Kattermann, F. (1994) ERIOSYCE (CACTACEAE) for a thorough monograph of the
genus.

Hope I have been of help.

Cereusly, Steve.
