Sansevieria Re: Books a suggestion

Norma there are only a handful of books available on Sansevieria
they are;
Sansevieria in cultivation in Australia Handbook2, ADELAIDE Bot.
Gardens 1979, Robert F.G. Swinbourne. A 45 pg booklet with some
history and cultural information and lots of line drawings.

Sansevieria. National Bot. Gardens Lucknow - India 1959
28 pages (single sided) a Rainbow Gardens spiral bound photo copy.
Lots of line drawings and easy to read Botanical and Horticultural
Descriptions.

The Sansevieria Book Hermine Stover
This book is a very easy to read book with lots of B&W photo's and
dotted with lot's of tips and information gained through the
cultivation of these plants.

Last but not least;
Sansevieria a monograph of all known Species N.E. Brown 1915
The Bible packed with information and Bot. line drawings. It gives a
lot of the first descriptions. The one drawback is it is sadly out of
date and some of the descriptions are taken from dried herbarium
specimens so differ quite a bit from turgid live material so a little
imagination is needed sometimes.

Sansevieria trif. and its varieties Juahn Chahinian. a very nice book
on these plants but unfortunately very out of date, now as there are
so many new CV's out there. But there is a lot of information not
available any where else. His list of names in the back is of immense
help to me as he gives the names as known in the USA and Europe, This
can cause some confusion.

There is a new Sansevieria Monograph in hand at the moment By Paule
Mgubwa (spelling) of Kenya Bot. Gardens. He is writing it as part of
his thesis and should be available shortly.

For other information Flora's of the various countries need to be
gone through The Flora of Somalia has some nice ref., in Vol 4 (
there are only 2 vols. available) powellii, ehrenbergii(rorida),
phillipsiae(hargeisana & Lavranos 7382), fisheri (singularis),
volkensii (intermedia), eilensis (anyone got a spare plant / leaf),
forskaoliana (abysinica, elliptica)

Mags., Journals.
This is a minefield all I will suggest is to go through the cactus
and succulent indexes for the various publications.
A wealth of information is the S ansevieria Journal by Juahn
Chahinian now seemingly defunct!!

Something I have just thought of is Bothalia (Flora of Southern
Africa) as I only have Vol.15 no. 3&4 no Sansevieria mentioned.
Maybe a quick look through their index of Vol,s would turn something
up. I must check this out at a latter date.

Hope this either helps or at least helps point you in the
right direction.
