Re: [SANS] Madagascar Sansevierias

Madagascar not a mystery.

Regarding post in June 23, 1998 Sansevierias by Gianlucca Corazza.

There are only two Sansevierias reported from Madagascar.

Sorry to disappoint you but the mystery plant collected in Madagascar by
Lavranos is Sansevieria canaliculata Carriere. See W.Rauh, Succulent and
Xerophytic Plants of Madagascar 2: 330, figs. 1223-1224 (1998) for some
photos of it.

Don't cry Hemine.

Now, if only someone would rediscover Sansevieria sambirinoensis Perrier
(fig. 1225). This is a curious Madagascan species with leaves resembling
those of the S.subspicata/concinna complex together with the inflorescence
of S.kirkii. The flowers have a much shorter tube than S.kirkii, however.
It would be an excellent addition to any collection!

Cereusly, Steve
