School Garden Grant Opportunity for Maricopa County-Arizona


ANNOUNCING a new school gardening grant opportunity available for public school districts within MARICOPA COUNTY - in the PHOENIX, ARIZONA METRO AREA 

The University of Arizona Maricopa County Cooperative Extension, Arizona Department of Education and USDA are offering a "Garden Grown" Team Nutrition 2000 Training Grant this May - December 2001.

This seven month grant program will provide in-service training for teachers, school staff, administrators, parents, community members and child care decision makers on the principles of the Dietary Guidelines for America 2000.  The training will link the new Dietary Guidelines with school gardening activities to help demonstrate how to use the Guidelines as a basis for modeling lifelong healthy eating and physical activity habits for children.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  April 27, 2001
AMOUNT:  Eight school districts will be awarded the grant opportunity valued at $12,000 in-kind training/education and $500 cash per district
ELIGIBILITY:  Public School Districts (individual schools cannot apply) in Maricopa County - Phoenix Metro Area only.
