2002 Regional School and Community Gardening Conference

This conference will be a training and networking opportunity for those
participating in community or youth greening efforts.  It will give you the
tools and information to make your garden a success.  Presented by the Des
Moines Community Gardening Coalition, a program of the Des Moines Botanical
Center.

Who should attend?  
Cultivating Connections is designed for the following groups of interest:
School gardens, community gardens, K-12 educators and administrators,
neighborhood associations, PTAs, garden clubs, food service workers, 4-H,
social workers, youth program agencies, public gardens, cooperative
extensions, horticultural therapists, community and youth leaders, child
development specialists, master gardeners, dieticians, and nutrition
specialists

Session Topics:
§ How to use the garden as an educational tool to teach nutrition, science,
art and diversity.
§ Design of community beautification projects and youth gardens.
§ Fundraising for your greening effort and how to get people involved.
§ Gardening basics such as planning & planting techniques, extending the
gardening season, and decreasing the drudgery of weeding and watering.
§ Creating butterfly gardens, organic gardens, and community tree planting
programs.
§ Hands-on Workshops
§ Field Trips
§ Discussion Panels
