Dear Arizona Educator:
The Arizona Advisory Council on Environmental Education (AACEE) is pleased to announce the new environmental education Regular Grant guidelines for the 1999/2000 school year. This marks the third year that environmental education grants are offered under AACEE’s statutory authority. Based upon your comments we have made several changes in the 1999/2000 Regular Grant application process. We have:
Moved the application due date form October 1999 to January 2000.
Combined the former Fast Track and Regular Grant into the new Regular Grant program.
Provided additional information about how the grants will be judged -- particularly about the number of points assigned to each requirement.
The AACEE will accept Regular Grant applications for amounts up to $10,000 in the following categories:
- 1.
Curriculum improvement and dissemination.- 2.
Training for educators, youth leaders, parents and school board members.- 3.
Field trips.- 4.
Sites or facilities on or near school ground developed for the purpose of providing field-based study.- 5.
Support for existing school-based programs which meet eligibility criteria.
- 2.
In addition to the Regular grant program, the AACEE sponsors:
1. The new Fast Track Grant program which allows applicants to chose from a list of pre-approved, pre-packaged learning experiences/programs.
2. An innovative Class Research Contest. This competition allows high school and middle school classes to work in teams to select a topic from six environmental issues for 1999/2000. Classes then write a balanced environmental research paper during the fall semester. Entries are judged and the winning entries receive a field trip/education experience grant of up to $10,000 for Gold awards, $5,000 for Silver awards and $2,500 for Copper awards. Completed research papers are due December 15, 1999.
