Re: Allow further discussion of related topics for sqfting?

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

To Bill and Karen who posted on this OT issue.  Personally, I agree with Bill.  As I have stated before--the "OT Wars" exist on just about any list.

I have come to understand for myself that we are a diverse group of personalities--just as in life.  Some of us are here for "information"--they are the purists.   They want facts--objective info.  There is also a contingent that is more subjective and embracing--the feelers.  I am one of those people.  I like the facts but I also see how everything is related and automatically widen my circle of perception to the perennial beds, bees, etc.  I sense that the people who have trouble with straying off topic on these lists feel very frustrated with it and I feel their frustration.  I think it is their nature and there is nothing wrong with that.    Wouldn't it be a boring world if we all were alike?.

I honestly don't know what to do about this.  As I said--it happens on all lists.   In my humble opinion, being a purist with anything is a challenge.  I'd like to be a purist with my eating, but I stray.  I'm human.  My own personal philosophy is that "everything is connected"--period.  But I also believe, as in a meeting, that someone needs to keep everyone focused on the agenda or we fritter away our time and energy.

The best solution I've come across in the "OT Wars" is to simply put OT in the subject line.  And, because we will all tend to stray again, someone needs to gently bring it up again and again and again.  A certain measure of control is necessary in life--but a hard line usually creates rebellion.   Respectfully, Lorri in Colorado
