Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi Brandi,
I have done a few things.
I moved my strawberries to a new bed that runs right along the side of
my garage, it's about two feet wide. I have a tall wire hoop fence (the
type that folds up like an accordion for storage) as a decorative
edging. This makes it a bit harder for the birds to just simply glide in
and out to steal the berries.
I have several very shiny and very flashy pinwheels there. Supposedly
birds don't like flashy, shiny, moving things.
I have bought several brightly colored plastic snakes from the dollar
store and laid them among the strawberry plants. This is probably the
most beneficial. Birds ARE terrified of snakes and they won't go near
them. I do move the plastic snakes every few days to a different spot. I
want to give the birds the impression that these are "active" snakes.
I don't have a plastic owl but I here that this is also very helpful
too, birds are afraid of owls to because they're predators.
Trudi
