I used the standard size w/two holes (I think they're 8x8x16) one high.
To avoid spiders, etc. from getting in the holes, just fill them with
soil. I have alpine strawberries planted in mine (planted last year) and
they're doing great! Also, I always plant various types of flowers
(usually marigolds, california poppies, etc.) in them. Makes a lovely
border and very good for the garden for bringing in beneficial insects.
