Well, lessee:

area=(pi) r^2 - r=12"

A=3.141592654 * 144 = 452.38934

Divide that by 144 (square inches in a foot), and you get 3.14159 square
feet,
or enough for about 12 plants (probably less, due to the roundness thing).
