Okra

Yes okra does very well in square foot/raised bed garding. In previous
years our okra was no more than 18 inches tal and gave us good crops. Last
year I planted some in a raised bed, about 6 plants, and they grew to 6
feet and we had a very large crop. Our bed was in the direct sun with air
temperatures in the 100 degrees plus for 90 days. We live in zone 8, on the
eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains at 2100 ft altitude. By the
way, most of the soil in my square foot areas is 75% compost and 25% stear
manure. Each year I add a sack of stear manure for each 3 x 4 square. My
normal soil is calechie (sp) for 40 ft down to sand so any gardening is a
multi year effort to build soil until I found out about square foot
gardening.
