Dot!,
when I was in BC (Vancouver) the rule was you didn't put out 'mateys
until that holiday when people open
their cottages - what's it called? Victoria day? Its about may 21st I
think. If you put them out earlier they'll
sulk and turn purple if not positively curl up their toes. I think even
then its too cold but hey! its Vancouver,
what can you do? I planted out my mateys when they were about 20-30cm
high in 4" pots. If yours are getting
big, keep potting them on, especially if they are happy where they are.
They'll do so much better when you
do put them out. Give the flowers a flick so they set fruit. As for the
cukes: you should probably wait another
two weeks after the 'mateys. Cukes don't like to be transplanted when
they're big so chuck the ones you've
got away and start again about the time you plant out the mateys so they
just have their first true leaves when
you put them out.
I can't remember where Pitt Meadows is but if its in the Pacific North
West then check out Territorial seeds
for info on growing. http://www.territorial-seed.com
