Laura- I have a 3x10 strawberry bed which I planted with 12 strawberry plants (Sequoia). They completely filled in the bed the first year (remember you are not supposed to let them produce strawberries the first year). The next year I had tons of strawberries. After the harvest I cut the plants down (don't harm the crowns) and thinned them out. If you don't thin them out each year they will become overcrowded. The plants put on quite a bit of growth before the first frost. We have relatively mild winters so I didn't put mulch on them. Right now we are just at the beginning of our spring and the plants are lush and full of blooms. I have been doing this for almost four years without replanting the bed. Hope this helps.
