In a message dated 97-04-19 21:22:42 EDT, you write: << I like corn, & would like to try growing it, but I'm not sure if it's worth giving up 3 blocks for 2 dozen ears. Has anyone else got opinions on this? >> Hi Val, You can get 36 ears of corn per 4 by 4 block if you plant using the traditional spacing for corn. (1 sq ft per plant) In the Organic Gardening Mag Mel wrote that he had success planting 4 plants per sq ft and got 128 ears of corn per 4 by 4 block. I tried that last year and was very disappointed with the results. I got 128 ears of corn, but all of them, with the exception of about ten, were tiny and not worth the effort. So this year I'm going back to the traditional spacing.
