I think a good oil to use would be a regular household garage type
lubricating oil (not a cooking oil, which could smell bad). Also, if
you hand sharpen your tools, you probably have a sharpening stone, and
some sharpening oil to go with that. That is a good oil to use, and
it cleans the tools as well. Hope this helps.
