Mel's book is a great place to start, but like all gardening books that I have used, it is based on the authors home location. I have had to make modifications to adapt it to a semi desert area. I have not found anything to be untrue (for New York state). Depending on where your located, you may have to make a few adjustments next year. oldjohn@juno.com John Orwick El Monte, CA (20 miles east of L.A.)
