First, hello to all - I'm new to vegetable gardening, thus also new to
square foot gardening. I've got two 4' x 4's dug and amended so far, one
with nothing but lettuce planted and the other I just finished yesterday and
haven't planted yet. Anyway, I like everything about the square-foot
method, it seems so much easier than rows, at least in theory... it would be
nice to hear some success stories and any other experiences with this type
of gardening from those of you who have been at it for awhile.
I really like the neat, well-kept look of wood around the squares, but have
a question - does anyone have problems with slugs and doodlebugs/roly-polys
getting underneath them? I have some old boards that would work well for
the job, but have already noticed that if they're lying flat on the ground
they become havens for garden pests.
