When I plant my corn I make a trench about 6 inches deep and then push
the seeds about 1 to 1 1/2 inches deep into the soil at the bottom of
the trench. As the corn grows I pull the soil from the sides of the
trench and mound it around the stalks. I end up with the stalks growing
in hills and they have plenty of root support to guard against high
winds. I've been doing this for many years and I never lose corn to
heavy winds.
