I just got back from an extended stay in Florida. Hubby went on a quest for
a Ponderosa Lemon tree. We found a small one and hauled it to Zone 8 - 9
border. (Tx)
The grower suggested to keep it from freeze damage to top it annually so we
can wrap it and mulch it. I'm thinking about getting a big tub to plant it
in to haul inside when the weather gets bad. Does anyone have any
suggestions on growing citrus outside their normal range?
And, his Uncle is an avid gardener, immaculate lawns and swept sand under
trees. Only, the organic material is gone and his garden no longer produces
like it once did.
I tried to explain the need for humus and bulky material for the plants to
get their nutrients, but I don't think he got it. I finally suggested he
just get a soil test and let the ag agent there tell him what's needed.
Think he'd benefit by Mel's books?
He has a wild peacock and a field rabbit that have 'befriended' him. When
they both ate up his vegetable garden, he just planted a patch for them and
another that he fenced for himself.
