Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi all,
We are new to the list, and this will be our first attempt at Square Foot
Gardening.
We are hoping someone could help us with a few questions.
We are starting out with 4 - 3'x4' boxes. We'll be using new fir 2x8s, so
we'd like to help them last.
My neighbor used non-treated fir for her raised boxes. She painted them,
inside and out, with what she calls "Environmentally safe paint" and they
still look like new after several seasons. However, the place she got the
paint has closed and she doesn't remember what the paint was called. All
the local paint stores say it's safe to use regular Exterior Latex.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Slugs are a problem here so we thought about adding copper tape around the
boxes. However, this seems rather expensive. We have quite a bit of 12
ga. copper wire and thought about just stapleing a loop around each box.
Is this likely to help?
Is there an FAQ somewhere? We hate to take up your time, asking questions,
if we could find the answers on our own.
TIA
Jane and Mark
