Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Original message:
What if I drafted a letter to Sierra outlining features that we want and the
square foot idea and then posted it for everyone to print, sign and mail it
in. Would you all get behind that?
If so, send me the features you are interested in and I will include them in
the draft letter. Let's say two weeks from now, I'll post the letter for
everyone to print.
We gotta do something other than say we want it, we must be heard. Give me
software or give me weeds!
A.G. Pitsilos
I've invested in quite a lot of software for gardening, and haven't really
come up with something that fits the bill for what I feel we could use.
Something that comes close is called Sprout! by Abracadata software, but it
isn't enough! (This is for primarily vegetable layouts)
We need:
1. Data on germination, when to start indoors, when to plant outdoors, what
and when can be planted outdoors.
2. Data on both vegetables, herbs AND flowers (it's usually one or the
other)
3. Average frost dates would be nice; possibly even average temperatures so
things could be planned in advance better
4. Easy CAD type program for laying out garden (since they have Land
Designer, I imagine it would be easy enough to adapt)
5. Daily or weekly gardening journal that is printable (that clipboard goes
with me whenever I'm in the garden!)
6. Moon phases for those who enjoy Farmer's Almanac!
This is just off the top of my head; I'm sure that I could come up with more
thoughts & ideas if I sat down and analyzed what is out there and what I
want.
I really believe that this type of software doesn't have to be a "niche"
market ... there are many gardeners out there who would find this
information beneficial (especially small gardeners who don't want to spend a
lot of time with multiple programs).
Speaking of beneficial, what about data on beneficial insects &
insecticides? (neem oil, diatomaceous earth, ladybugs, to name a few ..)
Needless to say, I'd be happy to sign up!
Peace,
Patti
