Actually I have  a fair amount of experience in this.  
 IMHO, the primary considerations are:

What zone are you in?

Are you thinking of passive solar heat or augmenting it with "other" heat
sources?

How many months of the year do you wish to use it?

If you wish to use it during the coldest art of winter, how much effort
are you  willing to go through?
