Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Best to keep the weeds down while they're young. Once anything goes to
seed, it becomes a real pest unless it's something you're trying to grow of
course. Keeping your soil covered with a 'skin' no matter if it's a crop or
a mulch is usually wise. Mulch the bare spots now, and later on, all you'll
have to do is dig out the persistent (grass roots) weeds and plant your
crops and pull the mulch around them again.
The only time I let my soil go bare is if I'm trying to get it warmed up
quick early in spring. Mulch will hinder soil warming somewhat.
