Re: Welcome to the new list

We were involved building raised beds in my garden this year and got the
ground-dwelling squash (including zucchini) in late. We had one of those
situations that, after a tractor scraped out pathways between my raised
beds and ridged up the soil, there was too much soil to remain in a ridge
we could build containment boxes around, so he started a pile of soil off
to the side. We ended up with four 17X4 foot beds, and had a long ridge of
extra soil. So DH built containment boxes around two parts of the ridge and
we hired a high school kid to shovel out paths for my electric scooter.
Then we had a really big mountain of good topsoil. In one of these extra
beds I planted two hills of Zephyr summer squash from Johnny's. That stuff
is good, and just about as prolific as zucchini. We're drowning in it, have
frozen 12 packages and eaten several meals of it. It's a yellow
straightneck squash with a green-tipped end, creamy, not as seedy as
zuke. And knock on wood, I haven't seen any squash bugs on it. Margaret L
