You probably already received your answer, but Mel Bartholomew is the
originator of square foot gardening. Go to your library and borrow his three
videos. He describes how he came about with the idea. Also his book, Square
Foot Gardening, is an excellent "textbook" on the how-to of this type of
gardening. If you don't want to buy the videos and book quite yet, borrow
from the library.

Also, tap into the "Farmer Brown's Garden Path" home page. Just go to a
search engine and type in the above title. It will give you all kinds of
square foot ideas.
