Yes, the corn in Illinois is planted thickly, and it appears to be set just
a foot in each direction from my inspection of some fields. What the
commercial farmers use is anhydrous ammonia, which is sprayed every week or
two on the fields. Being an organic gardener, I have a problem with that,
but.......... Guess you could spray with fish meal emulsion and/or liquid
kelp and get the same results. I love the field corn for the chew and
flavor. The super sweets developed in the last ten years or so are too
sweet for me.
