Tomatoe woes

I need advise on saving my tomato plants.
I use a modified square foot approach to gardening and have approximately 6
tomato plants (3' - 4' tall in cages along 2 tomatillo plants) in a 4ft x
4ft
area. My problem is the lower leaves/stalks and those that touch the
infected
leaves develop black spots, turn yellow, and wilt away. I have some fruit
on
the plants but their production seems to have diminished significantly since
the
initial fruit appeared and little new fruit is developing (perhaps energy is
being directed to fighting off disease).
I see no insects. We have had a very dry period here in northeastern Ohio
during July when the symptoms appeared. The disease seems to have affected
the
bottom leaves first. Also, I have planted the Gurney hybrid plants in the
same
location now for 3 years.
I have carefully cut off all infected leaves/stalks and sprayed the plants
thoroughly with fungicide (hose end sprayer/ Ortho product - I forget the
name).
Unfortunately the yellowed and dying leaves/stalks are still present and
are
spreading. I had the plants cleaned up pretty well after pruning, but now
the
wilt? is spreading (approx 10% of each plant are dying).
I would like to salvage the plants. Does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks,
Rob
